What is ❤️LOVE?

Love is the greatest gift from God! The Bible tells us that love is patient, kind, and gentle which are more fruits of the Spirit! Love is putting others needs before your own. Love is putting others first! We know how to love because God first loved us! Without God’s great love for us, we wouldn’t even know how to love! Can you thank God for that love? Do you want to know the best part about love? Love NEVER fails, it doesn’t give up— love lasts FOREVER! That’s a really long time!

Have you ever wanted something so much? A piece of candy? A super cool toy? A trip to the park? Imagine getting that piece of candy or toy, but you notice that your friend looks very sad. Love from God shows you something else you can do! Love can allow you to give your friend that piece of candy instead of eating it by yourself. What if you are allowed to go to the park, but notice your brother or sister are sick at home and cannot come to play? Love can help you choose to stay home and help care for them. Making the choice to share your candy or toy won’t always be easy, and staying home from the park might not be as fun, but putting others first shows LOVE in action.

Jesus is the greatest example of love! We can see this great love throughout the whole Bible. Jesus taught His friends every day and one day people asked Him how to show love to another person… He replied with a story called “The Good Samaritan.” Let’s read it together now in Luke 10!

Jesus said, “A man was going down the road from Jerusalem to Jericho. Some robbers attacked him. They tore off his clothes and beat him. Then they left him lying there, almost dead.

It happened that a Jewish priest was going down that road. When the priest saw the man, he walked by on the other side of the road.

He walked right past the hurt man?

Next, a Levite came past. He went over and looked at the man. Then he walked by on the other side of the road.

This guy walked past the hurt man too! He even looked at how hurt he was!

Then a Samaritan traveling down the road came to where the hurt man was lying. He saw the man and felt very sorry for him. The Samaritan went to him and poured olive oil and wine on his wounds and bandaged them. He put the hurt man on his own donkey and took him to an inn. At the inn, the Samaritan took care of him. The next day, the Samaritan brought out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. The Samaritan said, ‘Take care of this man. If you spend more money on him, I will pay it back to you when I come again.’”

Wow! The Samaritan not only stopped to help the hurt man, but he took him somewhere safe so he could heal!

Then Jesus said, “Which one of these three men do you think was a [friend] to the man who was attacked by the robbers?”
The teacher of the law answered, “The one who helped him.” Jesus said to him, “Then go and do the same thing he did!”

Jesus wants us to be just like the Samaritan! He wants us to show love to everyone even if we have something better to do, or if we have a more fun place to be. The Samaritan put the hurt man first. He helped him before he did anything else!

The Holy Spirit is growing LOVE inside of you and your little, just like the fruit on a tree! Now that you know and understand the first fruit of the Spirit, how will you be using it this week? How can you put others first?

Let us know how you share the LOVE your family has been growing!
